Robert “Dale” Plumb, 94, of Bowling Green, OH, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Sterling House. Dale was born on Oct. 4, 1915, in Beloit, WI, to the late Robert and Eunice (Marks) Plumb. He married Lucy E. Little on April 18, 1937, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 2006. They were married 68 years. Dale was born in Beloit, but at age 2 moved with his family to the homestead in Montana. They returned to Wisconsin in 1921, where Dale was graduated from Beloit High School in 1934. For many years he worked at the family restaurant, Plumb’s Lunch, in Beloit before taking up farming in 1949 on Hillside Road in Edgerton and later working at General Motors in Janesville. He retired in 1981 and moved to Bowling Green in 2005.
Dale loved to golf and continued to do so into his 90s. He also loved to play Kings Down, a card game invented by he and his brother. He loved his church, the Albion Prairie Methodist Church, where he served as trustee and treasurer for many years. But most of all, he loved people and was always there for them, doing the little things to make their lives better. He was, as they called him at Sterling House, "A Ray of Sunshine."
Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Lynda Abbott of Seattle, WA; son, Richard Plumb; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Russell Veitch; and granddaughter; all of Bowling Green. He is also survived by brothers, Mahlon of Merrillville, IN, and Roger of Plymouth, MN; his sister, Margaret (Peg) Luedtke of Coronado, CA; and brother-in-law, William Little of Stoddard, WI.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and brothers, William and Stanley.
Because Dale donated his body to the University of Toledo Medical College, there will be no visitation. However, there will be a Celebration of Life service held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at ALBION PRAIRIE METHODIST Church, Craig Rd., Edgerton, WI, followed by a luncheon at Coachman’s Inn, Edgerton, WI. Memorials in Dale’s name may be given to Albion Prairie Methodist Church in Wisconsin, Simpson Garden Park in Bowling Green, or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
