ARCADIA - Mark F. Fernholz, 92, of Arcadia died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Arcadia Nursing Home.

Mark was born in the town of Glencoe on May 22, 1917, the son of Albert and Cathrine (Eckel) Fernholz. He was united in marriage to Margaret Pyka on Nov. 21, 1940, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arcadia. Margaret died May 16, 2006.

Mark was a member of the First Airborne Division of the U.S. Glider Infantry in World War II. He worked for several years in Milwaukee. Mark and Margaret bought his father's farm in Glencoe in 1946 and farmed until they retired in 1981, when they moved to Arcadia.

Mark was a life member of Tickfer-Erickson Legion Post 17, OLPH Catholic Church, Arcadia Co-op Creamery Board, Glencoe Town Board for seven years and was a member of the NFO.

Mark is survived by daughters, Nancy (LaVerne) Haines of Arcadia and Jean (special friend Andy Friendt) of Maplewood, Minn.; sons, David (Dorothy) and Daniel (Barbara) of Arcadia; grandchildren, Doug Haines, Dale (Debbie) Haines, David Fernholz Jr., Jennifer (Glenn) Schick, Randall (Jennifer) Fernholz, Kate (John) Nelson, Kim (Phil) Ehrat, Russell (Jennifer Bork) Fernholz and Danielle Fernholz; 11 great-grandchildren, Leila Schick, Ryan Fernholz, Elyse Fernholz, Julia Fernholz, Hillary Nelson, Peyton Nelson, Jackson Nelson, Tyler Ehrat, Trevor Ehrat, Lexi Haines, Kelsey Haines; sisters, Theresa Melesko of Ellington, Conn., Magdalen Myren of Altoona, Wis., and Sister Catherine of St. Paul; and brother, Alvin (Clarice) of Arcadia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret, of 66 years; sisters, Josephine Fueling, Iona O'Konis, Phyllis Fernholz, Eleanor Fernholz, Alvina Konsela, Florence Grulkowski, Phyllis Brady and Verna Przybilla; and brothers, Vernon, Norbert Ailred and James Fernholz.

Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia, with the Very Rev. Michael Klos officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home in Arcadia, where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service and a 7:30 p.m. rosary. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Casket bearers will be grandsons.

Wozney-Killian Funeral Home of Arcadia is assisting the family with arrangements.
