KINGSPORT, TN - Lucille Susan Canipe, 90, went peacefully to be with the Lord at 9 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 21, 2002) at her residence after a brief illness. Lucille was born July 7, 1911 in Mitchell County, North Carolina, and was a daughter of the late Robert (Bob) and Jeanette (Young) McKinney.

She was married for 61 years to the late Leonard Wilson Canipe who passed away in 1990. Mrs. Canipe was a 50 year member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church, a loving mother, special and loving grandmother to her grandchildren and a special granny to all other children in the area. Lucille was a lady of great courage, understanding, and had a lot of faith in her Savior Jesus Christ.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Blanche (McKinney) Garland and a brother, Marvin McKinney. Surviving are her children: Gladys (Canipe) and Dick Shackelford, Bill Canipe, Artie and Phyllis Canipe, Wade Canipe, Glenna (Canipe) and Don Lisenby, and Brenda (Canipe) and T.C. Bundrant; grandchildren: Richard and Sandra Shackelford, Chuck Shackelford, James and Ginger Shackelford, Debbie and George Wanner, Patty Canipe Winkler, Michelle and Terry Light, Calan and Joey Canipe, Chris Canipe, Kevin and Rhonda Lisenby, Kent and Melanie Lisenby, Keith and Kristi Lisenby, Brooke Bundrant and Tammy Bundrant; great-grandchildren: Lisa and Jimmy Gangloff, Brian and Stacy Shackelford, Heather Lenoir, Mitzi and Tom Stiltner, Linzy and Dickie Hutson, Philip Wanner, Susan Wanner, Jared Light Morgan Lisenby, Austin Lisenby; great-great-grandchildren: Cody Gangloff, Brandon Gangloff, Callie Shackelford, Garrett Stiltner, Caleb Hutson; several special nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Calling hours were at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Services were conducted on Sunday (Feb. 24, 2002) at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Baker and the Rev. Stanley Sims officiating. The body was taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Music was under the direction of the church choir. Graveside services followed in the East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of the Good Shepherd. Grandsons served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the church.

The family requested that those, so desiring, make memorial contributions to the Gideons International Church Hill and Mount Carmel Camp, P.O. Box 846, Church Hill, Tenn. 37642.
