Velma Campbell, 82, of Big Spring, was surrounded by her family as she passed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, September 14, 2012 at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born April 24, 1930 to Jewell and Orville Gressett. She grew up in Broom and has been in Big Spring most of her life. Velma married Charles W. Campbell, Sr., on October 1, 1955 in Big Spring, Texas. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1988. She was an avid bowler, loved taking care of her yard, playing cards and going gambling with her friends and family. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 30 years.
Velma is survived by two sons: Charlie Campbell and his wife Diana and David Campbell and his wife Peggy, all of Big Spring; one brother: Phillip Gressett and his wife Faye of Brownwood; a brother-in-law: Gene Campbell and his wife Mary Jane of Abilene; two grandsons: Aaron and Austin Josey of McGregor; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband Charles Campbell, Sr. on June 7, 1993 and one granddaughter Le Ann Pesek on July 27, 2011.
Pallbearers will be Shane Gressett, Mike Leuschner, G.T. Miller and Gary Gressett.
The family suggests memorials to High Sky Children's Ranch, 8701 West County Road, Midland, TX 79707.
