He retired after 43 years from Power & Combustion, Inc., where he was a Steamfitter with Local Union 438.
An avid sports fan, he attended many games of the Colts, Ravens and Orioles. He was also an avid bowler and golfer and was a member of Winters Run Golf Club and an active member of AA. He loved his dogs Bella and Rambo.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia A. Dufour Adkins of Abingdon, MD; sons, Carl P. Adkins and wife, Deborah, of Bel Air, MD and Philip C. Adkins and wife, Lisa, of Forest Hill, MD; daughter, Cheryl A. Kenney and husband, Michael of Abingdon, MD; brothers Edward H. Adkins and wife, Shirley, of Arbutus, MD and Wayne L. Adkins and wife, Lillian, of Aberdeen, MD; sisters, Jeanette L. Lewellyn of Abingdon, MD, Evelyn Thorne and husband, Buddy, of Forest Hill, MD and Elaine Bennett and husband, Mike, of Aberdeen, MD; sister-in-law Burdell Adkins of Hampstead, MD; brother-in-law E. William Wolfkill of Bel Air, MD; grandchildren, Brian M. Kenney and wife April of Fair Hill, MD and Kevin L. Kenney and wife, April of Colora, MD; and great-grandchildren, Kaleena Kenney of Bel Air, MD, Hayden Kenney of Colora, MD, Kyley and Karson Kenney of Fair Hill, MD and Camden Kenney of Colora, MD. Visitation will be held at McComas Funeral Home, P.A., Abingdon, MD on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home in Abingdon on Saturday, September 8 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Joppa, MD.
Pallbearers will be Carl P. Adkins, Michael Kenney, Brian Kenney, Kevin Kenney, Brett Halsey and Richard White.
