Betty Amanda Hipps DeLozier, 80, of Asheville, N.C. passed away Friday, January 18, 2008, at Brakebill Nursing Home in Knoxville, Tennessee.

She was born to the late Vonnie and W.H. Hipps on Feb. 8, 1927 and she was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics and then of late from the University of North Carolina, Asheville, with a Master's Degree. Betty met her husband, Hugh DeLozier also of Asheville, while attending the University of Tennessee. They were married in 1950. Betty was a Home Economics teacher at Enka High School for over 40 years. She was also a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught an adult Sunday School class for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh, sisters, Sarah Hipps and Kathryn Trueblood: brothers, Bryon Hipps and W.H. Hipps, Jr. Betty is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hugh and Mollie Delozier; granddaughters, Sara and Rachel Delozier, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was devoted to her family and loved the people of Western North Carolina.

Family and friends gathered at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler for a 12 p.m. noon graveside service with the Rev. Rodney Hagens, officiating.
