Antonio Pedro Abad, 79, of the 7100 block of Mamie Blvd., a devoted husband, father and grandfather, departed this life Oct. 30, 1999, in Harbor Pointe Medical and Rehabilitation Centre.

Pedro was born in Norfolk to the late Pedro E. and Lucy Abad on Sept. 25, 1920. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and received a degree in Sociology from Virginia Union University in 1947. He retired from the Norfolk Social Service Bureau in 1981. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

His loving wife, Gladys and two sister, Lennice Brehon and Cecelia Canaday predeceased him. He is survived by two sons, Crispin A. Abad of Chesapeake and Pedro E. Abad of Norfolk; two grandsons, Crispin A. Abad Jr. and John P. Abad of Chesapeake; a daughter-in-law, Katherine T. Abad of Chesapeake; a nephew, Archer Drew of New York; and a host of relatives and friends.

An Omega memorial service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hale Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 8 to 9 p.m. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the residence. The Rev. Harold J. Cobb will conduct a funeral at noon Thursday in Grace Episcopal Church. The body will lie in repose from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, VA 23513.
