LAKELAND - Leon Wallace Matthews, 95, passed away from natural causes on September 10, 2012. He was born on April 13, 1917 in Battle Creek, MI and came to the area from Battle Creek in the 70's. Leon worked as a machine operator. He retired from Kellog's, was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church and was very proud of being a Volunteer Fireman in Battle Creek.
He is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Arleta Matthews and 2nd wife, Juanita Matthews. Leon is survived by his daughter, Dora Hagan, Springfield, MI; step sons, Paul (Connie) Wren, Polk City, FL, Drystal (Pat) Wren, Auburndale, FL; step daughter, Teri Pelkey, Polk City, FL; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (9/14/12) at 10:00 AM at Green Pond Cemetery. Interment will be in Green Pond Cemetery.
