GORED TO DEATH BY A BULL

Mrs. Philip Barnhart, of Jackson Township, Aged 69 Years, Died From Injuries Received. Funeral Held Today.

Mrs. Philip Barnhart, one of the old residents of Jackson township, was so badly gored by a bull a few days ago that she died. Mrs. Barnhart, who is almost seventy years of age, lived with her son-in-law, Tony Reinicke, southeast of Montra. She was very well preserved for her age and took great delight in looking after work on the farm.

Last Friday when no one was at home except she and her daughter, Mrs. Reinicke, Mrs. Barnhart went to the orchard to pick up some apples. While in the orchard she was attacked by a bull and knocked down and badly gored. No one saw her and when she was she could not get away from the bull she lay perfectly still as though she was dead and the bull left her but not until he had broken one of her arms, several of her ribs and injured her internally. After the bull left she managed to crawl to the fence, where she was discovered by her daughter and assisted to the house. She was given medical attention at once but it was evident that she could not survive and she died Sunday morning. She is survived by six children.

The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock and were conducted by Rev. Mittler, of Montra Lutheran church.
