Junction City- Loren Ronald Davidson, 65, formerly of Junction City, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at a West Covina, Calif., hospital.
Mr. Davidson received two national science faculty fellowships and was a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Nebraska from 1961 to 1967. He worked as a mechanical engineer for 30 years in Ohio, upstate New York and the Silicon Valley of California. His career included jobs with Celanese Plastics, of Columbus, Ohio, General Motors in Rochester, N.Y., and Sun Microsystems, of Sunnyvale, Calif.
Mr. Davidson held patents for inventions and was also a carpenter and gardener.
He was born March 28, 1937, in Junction City, to Oreno Baker and Vivian Lucile Towle Davidson. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1955 and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Kansas State University in 1960. He earned a master's degree at the University of Nebraska in 1961 and did a year of doctoral work at the University of Arizona in 1964.
He married Joan Jelinek on Dec. 21, 1961. They were divorced. He later married Jurng Kim Oh on Nov. 25, 1990. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Vivian Davidson, Topeka; two daughters, Jackie Young, Boulder Creek, Calif., and Deborah Davidson, San Mateo, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sojung "Sunshine" Lee, Santa Clara, Calif.; a brother, Cecil Davidson, Waco, Texas; a sister, Charlene Towsley, Topeka; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel in Junction City. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in Upland. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and sent in care of the funeral chapel, 805 Caroline Ave., Junction City, 66441.
