Ether E. M. Thomas, 84, of Oneida, passed away September 18, 2006, at the family home. Born in Scott County, May 5, 1922, he was preceded in death by his parents, William Finley and Ella Lee Smith Thomas; his first wife, Thelma Thomas; one daughter, Wilda Ruth Terry; five sisters, and five brothers. He was an ordained minister and served as pastor of Hazel Valley United Baptist Church for many years. He also taught Sunday school for more than 40 years, was choir leader, and sang in three different quartets. He repaired clocks and watches for more than 60 yeas in Jamestown and Oneida. He is survived by his wife, Prillie Stephens Thomas; his children: Loyd Thomas of Wringling, Oklahoma, and Bobby Joel Thomas, Eva Lee Thomas, and Carl Leon Thomas, all of Oneida; stepchildren: Sherman Chitwood of Helenwood, Sharon Strunk of Winfield, and Karen Keeton of Oneida; 16 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, one sister, Rilda Gasser of Ind.; one brother, Robert Thomas of Coos Bay, Oregon; special nephews, Paul Davidson, Larry and Donald Acres, and Billy Ray Young; and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted September 21, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Acres and Donald Acres officiating. Music was provided by Wilma Acres.
