Gene P. Downing, age 79, of Tompkinsville, formerly of Ft. Run, KY, died Thursday at the Monroe Health & Rehab Center in Tompkinsville.
He was a retired farmer, a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as church clerk and a deacon he was also a U.S. Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife: Wanda Cropper Downing. two daughters and sons-in-law: Hope and Patrick Myatt of Sulphur Lick, KY, Marla and Billy King of Smyrna, TN, one sister: Maxine Kirby of Geneva, IL, and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Gene P. Downing will be Sunday at 2:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in the Fountain Run Cemetery with military rites performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow.
Visitation will be after 2:00 PM on Saturday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Memorials are suggested to the MCHS Baseball Program or Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church
