Reverend Francis Eugene Thomas of Pensacola, FL. went home to be with the Lord June 24, 2012. He was born in Kellysville, West Virginia, the son of Reverend O. W. and Laura Thomas. Lovingly known as "Gene," he served in the Seabees in WWII and was a graduate of Lee College and Marshall University. He was an elementary school principal and teacher. Also, he was a minister with the Church of God, beginning his ministry in 1943 and retiring in 1983. He served in West Virginia and Florida.
He is survived by two sisters, Juanita (Harold) Trumbo of Waynesboro, VA and Joyce (Don) Sells of Naples, FL; two sons, Bob (Gloria) Thomas of Pensacola, FL and Dr. Phillip (Dale) Thomas of Cleveland, TN; three grandchildren, Robin (Kevin) Trussell, Dawn Thomas, both of Pensacola, FL. and Shannon (Frank) Trem of Naples, FL; four great grandchildren, Erika (Erik) Viquelia, Jacquelyn Trussell, Tyler Trussell and Ryan Trussell, all of Pensacola, FL.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Reverend O. W. and Laura Thomas; the love of his life for nearly 72 years, his wife, Nettie Lane Thomas; four sisters, Mary Thomas, Jewel Rogers, Georgia Dorman, Gertrude Bland and two brothers Burgess Thomas and Clifton Thomas.
A funeral service will be conducted, Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pensacola Worship Center, 5715 North "W" Street, Pensacola, FL., with Reverend Josh Henson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 26, 2012 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Interment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. with Reverend Timothy Gann officiating. Trahan Family Funeral Home, Pensacola, Florida, is in charge of arrangements.
The family wishes to thank Covenant Hospice of Milton and Pensacola for their loving care during his final days.

NOTE: Reverend Thomas moved to Pensacola about a year before he passed away. I met him at the door of our church with a welcome. He had such a smile that he stole everyone's heart. His son lived so far away that he asked if we could get him a ride to church each Sunday. I got four people that picked him up once a month. He became the father of these couples. He loved to talk about the Lord and all the blessings he had received. It was a sad day when we got the call that Bro. Gene had left us to live for eternity. Gene, we have missed you, but we know you are singing around the throne of God.
