Mr. Beattie was thrice married, Miss Sarah Haines was his first wife, by whom he had 10 children, six sons and four daughters; Miss Elizabeth McKinney his second, by whom he had three children, by whom he had three children, two sons and one daughter; and Miss Rachel Kelso his third wife, who also died before him. Three of the children died in infancy, two others after they were grown up, and five sons and three daughters, survive him. Two of these became ministers of the gospel - one a pastor of a congregation in Vermont, and the other a missionary in Syria.
