He was born Aug. 1, 1926 in Viele, Iowa, to August and Glenora Klingler Burghoffer.
He was a retired quality control inspector for the former Fruehauf Company.
On March 9, 1956 he married Wilma M. Marshall at Donnellson. She survives.
He is also survived by son Jon Burghoffer of Donnellson and daughters Lori (Burghoffer) Galle of Montrose and Becky Burghoffer of Des Moines; two grandsons, one nephew and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Gillaspey-Moodie American Legion Post No. 474 and a 1944 graduate of Fort Madison High School.
Mr. Burghoffer served in the U.S. Army and was in the Korean Conflict. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and was awarded three Bronze Stars.
There will be no visitation. His body has been cremated. There will be a full military service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the graveside by the Gillaspey Moodie Post 474 of Donnellson, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating.
Burial will be in Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson with Hofbauer-Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial has been established for the Gillaspey-Moodie American Legion or the Library Fund of Central Lee K-8 school.
