Violet Ann Carlson, a resident of Little Falls, formerly of rural Randall, died May 2, 2010, at the Harmony House in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville, with Father Ron Dockendorf officiating. Burial was in the St. John's Parish Cemetery in Swanville.

Violet Ann Carlson was born May 7, 1918, in Woodstock, to the late John and Ella (Stoltenburg) Deick. At two years old Violet and her family left Woodstock on a train and relocated to Randall. She graduated from Little Falls High School in 1936. Violet worked at the Buckman Hotel in Little Falls, for several years. She was united in marriage to Edwin Carlson April 24, 1941, at St. James Catholic Church in Randall. The couple farmed near Randall. In the 1940's Edwin and Violet moved to Parker Township where they farmed all their married life. In 2004 Violet and Edwin became residents of the Harmony House in Little Falls where she resided until her death. Violet was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville, Christian Mothers, and a 4-H mother. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her flowers and gardening, and loved to shop. Violet loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

Violet is survived by daughters Judie Hanson of Oxnard, Calif. and Jan Smieja of Little Falls; son James (Jeannie) Carlson of Little Falls ; sister Dorothy Valerius of New Brighton; brothers Bernard (Jay) Deick of Minneapolis and Jack (Diane) Deick of Cushing; six grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Violet was preceded in death by husband Edwin; parents John and Ella Deick; sister, Mary Newman; and brother Robert Deick.
