Married Barbara A. Hadden on December 18, 1856 in DeKalb Co., GA. His occupation was listed variously as: farmer, stone cutter and amateur explorer of Stone Mountain.

In his later years he was known as "Captain Tom Willingham" and would help rescue amateur explorers of Stone Mountain who became trapped in the crevices of the steep mountain.

Enrolled May 1, 1862 in the "DeKalb Riflemen". After many illnesses he was furloughed home where he remained until the surrender.

He was a member of the Stone Mountain Masonic Lodge.
