Piloted by 1st Lt. Clarence W. Gooden and crew. Briefed to fly in the 3rd wave and attack White IV. B24MARGIE was hit by flack and seen to crash in the refineries area. Co Pilot and Engineer escaped from the crash area and were taken POW. 8 Crew KIA and 5 bodies never identified.
Lt. Perkins was awarded the Silver Star for Valor.The Silver Star is the 2nd highest US military award.
