A native of Lamar County, Alabama, DR. SMITH came to Birmingham in 1902. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of Ensley Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, MRS. GREEN H SMITH, a son, DR. HAMPTON SMITH of Birmingham, two daughters, MRS. LEE McEACHERN of Memphis, Tennessee, and MRS. CLAUDE A KYLE of Birmingham; four brothers, DR. J. C. SMITH, DR. T. L. SMITH, ROY SMITH and DR. J. M. HANKINS, all of Birmingham; a sister, MRS. J. A. THOMAS of Birmingham, and seven grandchildren.
DR. SMITH practiced medicine in Ensley since 1924. Prior to then, he was a physician with the Tennessee Coal and Iron Co., in Blocton, Alabama.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, where he was co-founder of Phi Chi Medical fraternity. He was a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society, Alabama State Medical Society, American Medical Society, and was a charter member of the Alabama Chapter of the American Association of General Practitioners.
DR. SMITH also was a charter member of the Ensley Civitan Club. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Ensley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lamar Jackson conducting. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the Ensley Baptist Church, Dr. Stanley Graham, J A Holcomb, C S W Hart and Fred B White.
Active pallbearers will be Dr. Hugh Linder, Dr. Ivan Berrey, Dr. J N Carmichael, P A Morgan, Romaine Scott and Wilbert Gay.
