Obituary provided by Calicatgal (49557353):
"Mountain Democrat Sat Mar 17, 1923
Again we are called upon to chronicle the passing of one of those men who for years gave their best efforts to the upbuilding of this community and were ever ready to volunteer when there was work to be done that would advance the best interests of their chosen county.
George Kimble passed away suddenly early Saturday morning at his home in this city.
He came across the plains 70 years ago with his parents in a caravan drawn by oxen. His father died on the way, the mother proceeded on the journey with the rest of the party and settled in Mud Springs.
When still a young boy he and his mother moved to Gold Hill. He married Louisa A Kuhn in Gold Hill, later, the family moved to Placerville.
Mr Kimble was a self-made man, receiving his education and knowledge by hard study - the only school he attended was the one in Coloma. He took up the study of geology, mineralogy, civil and mining engineering; was founder and owner of the famous Mountain View mine; also operated the Unity and Kimble mines in this county; he also did a great deal of mining in Butte county. At one time he was a member of the board of education.
According to wishes expressed by Mr Kimble, the funeral was private, Rev Frank Dawson officiating, with interment being in Union cemetery. "
