The steamer Bob Henry blew up on the Elk river near Charleston, killing Lewis Kelley, fireman, C. H. Braurley and Frank Dotson and fatally injuring pilot Morgan Stalnaker, engineer Milton Hudnall, deck hand Billus Wells, H. B. Donohon, H. D. Snyder, John Snyder, Brad Samples. Lee Levitt, Sam Hart, Billy Cox and Henry Snyder, all of whom are scalded and received broken bones. Slightly injured, Capt. Henry Whitaker, John Haines, cook, Rogers, pilot, and S. H. Samples. The boat was insured for $1500
