HUGO, Okla. — C. M. Barrett, 91-year old retired minister of the Church of God, died about noon Monday in the Golden Age Home, Hugo, where he had lived in recent years since closing his home at 701 W. Kiamichi St. Lampton-Mills Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Mr. Barrett, who was widely known in Choctaw County, was born Dec. 31, 1882, in Honey Grove, Tex. He had lived in Hugo several years, coming here from Fort Towson.

He had been a Church of God denomination preacher for nearly 50 years, preaching at Fort Towson and Swink before moving to Hugo where he was an early pastor of the local congregation.

He was a member of Hugo Lodge No. 217 A.F. & A.M. and all York Rite Masonic Bodies here. He was chaplain of the local Blue Lodge for many years and later served at tiler.

He is survived by seven children; his wife, Mrs. Maggie Elizabeth Barrett, having died Oct. 20, 1967; one son, George S. Barrett of Popular, Calif.; six daughters, Mrs. Mary Miller of Hugo, Mrs. Freddie Moore of Boswell, Mrs. Ada Janeway of Selma, Calif., Mrs. Gracie Britt of Collinsville, Tex., Mrs. Carine Tidmore of Wichita Falls, Tex., and Mrs. Joyce Capers of Irving, Tex.; 101 other descendants in three generations also survive.

HUGO, OKLA. – Funeral services for the Rev. Charlie Barrett, a minister for 55 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Church of God on West Main Street, which is one of many churches he established in Oklahoma and Texas.

The Rev. Frank Smith, pastor and the Rev. Bill Golden, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church will officiate. Hugo Lodge 217 A.F. & A.M. of which he was a long time member, will be in charge of Masonic services at the gravesite in Fort Towson.
