Paul was born on November 19, 1927, in Wenatchee, Washington to Albert Luther and Virginia (Bird) Ryan.
Paul lived his early years in Kinzua, Oregon -- often spending summers in Wenatchee with grandparents. His family moved to The Dalles, Oregon in 1943, where he graduated from The Dalles High school in 1946. Paul worked on the family dairy until entering college. He received degrees from Multnomah College of the Bible, Lewis and Clark University, Western Baptist Seminary in Portland, Oregon and McCormick Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. While in Portland, Paul served as hospital Chaplin at Emmanuel hospital and held chapel for the student nurses.
In 1964, he married a teacher, Nida Jean Clark of Naches Washington. They accepted a call to their first church to the Manhattan Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, Montana, where he was ordained. He served the churches of Pony-Harrison, Ennis, and Manhattan concurrently for many years while operating the Valley Sanitation Service which he sold in 1981. When he moved back to Oregon in 1983, he spent the next several years helping local churches, and then served as minister at Maryhill Community Church for 13 years.
In 1999, Paul and Nida moved to Grandview, Idaho and pastored the Knight Community Church for 10 years. Paul retired in 2009 and in his later years, he was a member of the Nampa First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed serving locally and preaching at the Lighthouse Mission in Nampa, Idaho.
