CLEVELAND -April 23rd 2007 at 4:14pm A Madison man, Michael Hires, 39, making his first solo flight in an ultra light was killed Saturday when the craft crashed into a hanger at White County Airport.
White County Deputy Fire Chief Norman Alexander said witnesses told them that the man had started his solo flight when a gust of wind blew the craft into the top of one of the hangers at the air field.
The accident happened just before noon and according to Alexander a medical transport helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but officials decided to transport the patient by ground ambulance to the hospital.
MICHAEL Michael Lawrence Hires, Sr, 39 of Madison died April 21, 2007. Mr. Hires was born August 15, 1967 to Lawrence and Brenda Brown Hires. Mr. Hires grew up in Loganville and married his high school sweetheart, Candace Cashwell on July 26, 1986. Mr. and Mrs. Hires, along with their son Michael, Jr. moved to Madison in 2003 from Jersey. He was a member of Victory Tabernacle in Conyers. Mr. Hires was a home builder and had recently developed Hires Manor subdivision in Madison. Mr. Hires was a passionate man, committed to his family, his Lord and his goals. He loved his job, creating quality homes. Mr. Hires also loved his hobbies. He enjoyed his John Deere tractors and his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Mr. Hires was also realizing a lifelong dream at the time of his death by becoming a pilot. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a loving, generous and hard working man. Mr. Hires is survived by his wife of twenty years, Candace Cashwell Hires and their son, Michael Hires, Jr. Also surviving are Mr. Hires‚ parents, Lawrence and Brenda Hires, Father-in-law, Marion and Mary Cashwell as well as his grandparents, Joe and Pat Brown. Also surviving is one brother, Darrell and Manuela Hires of Dacula, and two sisters, Tammy and Randy Hooper of Madison and Holly and Ryan Densmore of Loganville. Mr. Hires is also survived his nieces and nephews, Ashley Hires, Alex Hires, Allison Hires, Joshua Hooper, Jacob Hooper, Jaclyn Hooper, Caileigh Densmore, Ryan Densmore, Jr, and Laci Densmore. The family received friends from noon until 2 pm and 6 until 8 pm on Monday and Tuesday at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 pm in the chapel. Interment followed at Madison Memorial Park. Rev. Doug Nelms officiated. A.E. Carter Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
