McCLINCY, Bernadine Virginia Passed away on December 2, 2008, at Panorama City, Lacey, Washington. She was born in Walla Walla, Washington, to Harry W. and Mary E. (Doyle) McClincy and moved to Spokane at the age of 15. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1927, received her Elementary Teaching Certificate from Cheney Normal, her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Washington, and her Master of Arts in Student Personnel Administration from Columbia University. Making her home in Spokane, she taught from 1929 through 1968 at Edison, Jefferson, and Lincoln elementary schools, Libby Junior High School, and Lewis and Clark High School. In 1968 she retired as Dean of Girls from Lewis and Clark High School. During World War II, she joined the United States Naval Reserve as a member of the WAVES. After training in meteorology at the University of Chicago, she served as an Aerological Officer at Tillamook, Oregon, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association, Hobnailers of Spokane, and former member of Zonta, Pi Lambda Theta, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Upsilon Sigma Iota. Survivors include one niece, Mary B. (James) Halvorsen, of Lacey, Washington; three grand-nieces, Mary Twohill, Larina (Brian) Peck, and Kathryn (Kevin) Johnson; and two grand-nephews, Ryan (Carolyn) Halvorsen and David (Samantha) Halvorsen. Arrangements are under the direction of MILLS & MILLS FUNERAL HOME IN TUMWATER, WASHINGTON (360-357-7743). A graveside committal service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 2:00pm.
