Lester was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and lived at 1334A N 72nd Street all of his youth. According to the 1940 census he was listed as 16 years old in April 1940. Listed in the 1940 census is his father August, mother Emma, older brother August Jr, and younger sister Lorraine. No other children are listed.

Lester operated a TV repair business in the Wauwatosa community until 1958 when in December 1958 he purchased a Western Auto store in Evansville, WI from Roy Sarrow. Lester along with his wife Helen S. Baumann (nee Viskoe) lived and worked in Evansville, WI.

Lester and Helen had no children.

Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing and the Western Auto store was filled with sporting goods. Lester had previously shot a large moose in Alaska and had the head mounted and displayed over the service counter at the store.

Lester passed away on Feb 4th, 1964 while working at the store. Lester told Helen that he was not feeling well and went to the back room area to sit and rest. Helen went to check on him a bit later and found that he had died. Lester had suffered a fatal heart attack.

Lester's funeral was held at a funeral home in Wauwatosa, WI on February 7th. Burial was at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, WI.

Helen Baumann sold the store the following year and moved to the Shawano, WI area and became a high school teacher at Shawano High.

Helen remarried in 1967 to Gene Forsythe of Delta, WI. They had no children. Helen passed away in 2002.
