Charles William Sosbe, 78, Rochester, and formerly of Kokomo, died at 3:07 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Kokomo, the son of Clarence and Beulah (Anderson) Sosbe. He married Wilma L. Gollner on June 12, 1948, in Kokomo, and she survives.

He retired from the Kokomo Police Department in 1972 with 20 years of service. During his service he served as assistant chief for nine years, and chief for two years. After retirement, he served as a Circuit Court Bailiff for four years. He was a member of the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police and Retired Policeman and Fireman Association of Indiana. He was an avid open wheel racing fan.

Surviving are two daughters, Debora K. Piercy and husband Stanley, Kokomo, and Linda S. Wagoner and husband Michael, Rochester; two sons, Charles W. Sosbe, Jr. and wife Karen, Kokomo, and Timothy R. Sosbe and wife Debra, Rochester; granddaughters, Nicole Parkhurst and husband Russell, Lindsay Pesaresi, Jennifer Goad and husband Christopher, Stacey Sosbe, Errin Piercy; grandsons, Christopher Sosbe and wife Amy, Nathan Lauderbaugh and fiance Ashley Hannah, Daniel Wagoner and wife Erin, Boyd Piercy, Adam Piercy and wife Wanda; great-grandchildren, Kynzie, Jacob, Alexander, Treavor, Hailey, Kayla, and Christopher.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo, with the Rev. John McCoy, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Calling will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association, Kidney Foundation, or The Diabetes Association.
