Samuel "Sam" McPherson, 81, of Whitehall, formerly of Baldwin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Peggy (Coghill) McPherson; cherished father of Susan (Chuck) Willis, Sam McPherson Jr., Lynn (John) Calgelia, Tom (Jean) McPherson, David McPherson, Joan (Rob) Hess, Carol (Russ) Westerman and Bob (Lori) McPherson; adored Pap Pap of 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; brother of Marie Asti, Ed (Kay) McPherson and the late Bette Boylan, John McPherson and Mickey McPherson; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sam was a member of Steamfitters Local Union No. 449 for more than 55 years, employed with Power Piping Co. for more than 50 years and he served as a steamfitter, project manager and part owner. He was a former mayor, councilman, committeeman and Democratic chairman of Baldwin Borough and honorary member of the South Baldwin Vol. Fire Company. He enjoyed his time spent with family and friends at his lake home in Conneaut Lake. His strong love for family, friends and community are apparent in the above achievements. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church. Interment at Jefferson Memorial Park.
