Ray G. Richards
Ray Gene Richards, son of William McKinley Richards and Margaret Elizabeth Weatherwax, was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Wayne County, Iowa, and dies Jan. 29, 1975, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, after a short illness.
Ray grew up in Wayne and Decatur Counties, graduating form Weldon High School. He served in the
U.S. Army in 1951 and 1952. On Aug. 17, 1953, he was united in marriage to Shirley Routh at Bethany, Mo.
Six children were born to this union: Larry, Gary, David, Rodney, Sandra and Susan. All are at home except gary, who is in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Norfolk, Va.
Ray and his family lived in the Osceola area until moving to their present home southwest of Liberty Center in 1966. He was employed at Des Moines Asphalt and paving Company for 20 years.
His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife and children; sisters, Mrs Elsie Crawford and husband Lowell, of Osceola, Laveda Grove of Corydon and Mary Pence of Des Moines; brothers, Melvin of Chicago; and James and wife, Barbara, of LeRoy. Also surviving are two sister-in-law and 7 brothers-in-law.
Funeral services were held in Liberty Center United Methodist Church, jan. 31, and burial was in the Liberty Center Cemetery.
