GARDNER, George Edward, 85, of Bergholz, OH, passed away August 22, 2012, at Valley Hospice Care Center North.

He was born July 28, 1927, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Orn E. and Estella (Buckbee) Gardner.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Van Gardner and sister, Eleanor Gardner.

He served his country in the United States Army during WWII.

George was a member of the Bergholz United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club. George retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel.

He is survived by his wife, Frances (Palmer) Gardner whom he married February 10, 1954; son, John (Grace) Gardner of Mechanicstown; daughter, Cheryl Brewer of Bergholz; four grandchildren, Bobi (Jay) Gordon, Ross (Karla) Gardner, Cori (Dan) Warner, and Paige (Mark) Hay; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Martha Nonemaker of Conneaut, Betty Jean Haynes of Richmond, OH, and Margaret Cline of Lake Milton, OH; and sister-in-law, Judy Gardner of Salineville.

Friends will be received at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 285 Second St., Bergolz on Saturday August 25, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 with funeral services at 8 p.m. with Pastor Mark Thomas officiating.

Private burial will take place at Bergholz Cemetery.
