MULLINS - Mr. Franklin Martin Carmichael, 85, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at his home after an illness.
Mr. Carmichael was born May 5, 1927 in Marion County, a son of the late Claude and Nell Hill Carmichael. He had been a teacher, a coach and also was an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance Company for 35 years. He was a graduate of Mullins High School and Wofford College. Mr. Carmichael was a US Navy veteran and a member of Zion Southern Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Carmichael are his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Rogers Carmichael; three daughters, Connie Harrison and her husband Vernon and their children, Forrest and Stafford, Lisa Holcomb and her husband Kenny and their children, Leigh Anna and Blake and his wife Kellie and their son, Cameron Blake Holcomb, and Beth McMillan and her husband David and their children, Wade and Claire; a son, Martin Carmichael and his wife Era and their children, Sarah and Ben; a sister, Elizabeth Funderburk; a brother, Nelson Carmichael and his wife Jo; his sisters-in-law, Joyce, Wilma and Reah Carmichael, Pauline Hardwick and Catherine Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carmichael was predeceased by four brothers, Dan, David, Wilson and Ray.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 24, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Marion Watkins and Rev. Jim Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow at Watson Cemetery in the Zion Community.
