Windsor: George Lewis Goodspeed 95, a long time resident of East Windsor, went to be with the Lord Jan. 19, 2014 at the Oxford Veterans Home, where he had been a resident/patient and received exceptionally devoted care over the last several years. George was born in Gilbertsville, NY, Dec. 21, 1918 to Lewis H. and Nina Pearl (Belden) Goodspeed. He was predeceased by his wife Violet (Morrison) Goodspeed in 2004, as well as his brothers Rolland, Donald and Gordon. He is survived by his sister Eunice Goodspeed Saunders, his children Georgene Strawn (Clarence), Ronald Goodspeed (Valerie), Grandchildren Ronald Jr. (Lyn), Amy Bonnano, Clarence R Strawn (Clarice), Rhonda Stoeckel (Douglas) , James Strawn (Sheila), 18 Great-grandchildren and 13 Gr Gr Grandchildren. George lived a full and active life as a carpenter and served at times as a Lay Minister. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre from 1939-1945 and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. George had many interests, among them building doll houses and doll furniture, an extensive collection and knowledge of fossils. He particularly loved to dance. He will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Thursday at the Windsor Free Methodist Church, 103 Main St. Windsor. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 -12. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery, Ouaquagua. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the NYS Veteran's Home Activities Dept. 4211 State Hwy 220 Oxford, NY 13830.
