Death Of Mrs. Jas. C. Shelton
Mrs. James C. Shelton died Tuesday night at 10 o'clock at her home, 1315 Franklin street, after a two weeks' illness of complication of diseases. Her condition had been so critical for several days that her children had been summoned to her bedside and were with her when death came.
The deceased, whose maiden names was Miss Fannie Stephens, was born in Milburn, Kentucky, March 6, 1859. She was married to Mr. Shelton at Milburn, July 11, 1882, and they came to Missouri that same year, first living at Morrisville. Afterwards they lived at Neosho and Richmond, coming to Lexington in 1902, where they have since lived. Mrs. Shelton was a member of the Methodist church and a splendid Christian character. She was devoted to her home and family and without reserve labored for their welfare and happiness.
Besides her husband, she is survived by five daughters and one son, Mrs. D.M. Key, Jackson, Miss.; Mrs. J.W. Cope, Lexington; Mrs. J.W. McClure, Hughesville, Mo.; Mrs. M.L. English, Salt Lake City, Utah; Miss Frances Shelton, Lexington, and Glenn Shelton, New York City. Other survivors are three brothers, W.A. Stephens, Bards Ville, Ky.; T.F. Stephens, Montgomery, Ala.; H.I. Stephens, Louisburg, W. Va.; and one sister, Mrs. L.P. Williams, Bradford, Ark.
The funeral services conducted by Rev. J.E. Alexander, were held from the home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

At the time of her birth, Milburn was in Ballard County. About 1886 the county was divided into two counties - Ballard and Carlisle. Milburn is located in the part that became Carlisle County.
