Marine Lance Corp. James R. Aarde, 22, of 21814 Pacific Highway South, Kent was killed by hostile fire while on duty with the 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Division, near the demilitarized zone in Vietnam. Jame's wife gave birth to a daughter after he went to Vietnam. He was employed by Cawdrey & Verno Inc., contractor, before entering the service. Other survivors included a sister and a maternal grandmother.
