Mary Puckett was the second wife of Revolutionary War Hero, Captain James Dillard. Together they had 7 children, one of which was Dr. James Henry Dillard, whose daughter, Mary Jane was married to William Plummer Jacobs who was the founder of the Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton, SC.

Headstone on left lying on the ground is Capt. Dillard's. His wife Mary Puckett lies to his right. He was born in 1755 and died in 1836. Mary died in 1842.

No one is quite sure where James' first wife Mary Ramage is buried.

This is the family cemetery for the Dillard's and Ducketts in South Carolina. It is most likely in Newberry County.

Gravesite Details

The gravestone for Mary Puckett Dillard was turned over face down. A new stone was erected by the Boy Scouts and the local SAR chapter. They mistakenly marked this grave as that of Mary Ramage, first wife of James Dillard who died around 1795.
