James J. Bertram Sr., 77, of Stoughton, Mass., formerly of Oak Park, died June 30 after a brief illness in Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, July 7, in St. James Church, Stoughton, Mass. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.

Mr. Bertram Sr. was born in Oak Park. He was a graduate of Fenwick High School Class of 1944 in Oak Park and DePaul University in Chicago, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. He had resided in Stoughton, Mass., since 1953.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Bertram was a sales engineer for Micro Switch Division of Honeywell in Boston, Mass., for 31 years until 1987 and then worked at Controller Sales & Service in Avon, Mass., for 10 years before retiring in 1998.

Mr. Bertram and his wife wintered in Siesta Key, Fla., for the past 20 years. An avid reader and history buff, he also enjoyed building model trains and ships and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife Mary, nee Collins, Mr. Bertram is survived by his children, James J. Jr., Capt., Stoughton Fire Department, and his wife Paula of Stoughton, Mass., John E. "Jack" and his wife Susan of Milton, Mass., Mary Beth Meyer and her husband Gerry of Easton, Mass., Richard C. and his wife Karen of Middleboro, Mass., and Paul C. and his wife Kimberly of Easton, Mass. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Y. Welter.

Visitation was held July 6 in the Farley Funeral Home, Stoughton.
