Life became a burden

United States Census, 1900
Frank Ahlers Son
birth: March 1886 Nevada
residence: 1900 Austin, Bullion, Cortez, Gold Park, Grass Valley, Hess, Kingston, New Pass, Park Canyon, Silve, Lander, Nevada, United States
mother: Lizzie Ahlers
other: Matilda Ahlers, Frederick Ahlers, Bertha Ahlers, Helena Ahlers, Oliver Ahlers, E B Fuller

Cause of death: suicide

Newspaper articles from the Reno Gazette-Journal, Reno, Nevada: Dated 8 Apr 1907, page 3, col. 4; "DANCES THEN KILLS HIMSELF, TOLD BARTENDER THAT HE HAD BEEN ROBBED,

Frank Ahlers, a Teamster in Manhattan [Nevada], Laughs and Drinks and Then Fires Bullet Into His Brain."

Paraphrased: TONOPAH, April 8 - Frank Ahlers, a teamster from Manhattan [Nevada], where he worked for Enkhouse in charge of a ten-horse team, arrived in the city Tuesday. Friday night, fairly sober, he entered the Big Casino about 11 o'clock to tell the bartender, George McCreary, that he had been held up at the corral below the depot and robbed of $80. McCreary advised he go to the police, wheh he did, returning with two policemen, making the rounds but unable to find his assailants. The policemen left Ahlers in the dance hall. Ahlers bought a couple of drinks and after dancing a few minutes went into the alley where he took his own life. [My opinion: This case was ruled a suicide, but I can't stop wondering if Ahlers came to harm from the men who robbed him after they saw him making rounds with the Police.]

Dated 1907 Apr 13, page 5, col. 2; "THEFT OF WATCH CAUSE OF DEATH," Paraphrased: Frank Ahlers, a young teamster, was robbed of his watch, chain, and $80, then shot himself. Ahlers was the son of Mrs. E. B. Fuller of Sparks. He left three brothers, Bertha B. Ahlers, Fred W. Ahlers of Austin, and Oliver I. C. Ahlers of Goldfield, and three sisters, Mrs. Martha E. Stowe of San Jose, Tillie N. Ahlers of Washington, and Mrs. Helen H Metzler of Nevada. Frank Ahlers was a native of Reese River near Austin, Nevada and was 21 years and 16 days old.
