Virginia's first husband was Ssgt Cecil Lawson Barnes of DeLand Florida, killed in May 29, 1944 during WWII while serving in the Army Air Corps. His was the tail gunner in a plane that was shot down over Biak Island in Papau-New Guinea.

Virginia M. Jacobs, 100, of DeLand passed away May 30, 2016 at her home. She was born in Berkeley Springs, WV on April 15, 1916 and moved to DeLand in 1926 from her birthplace.

She was a member of Plymouth Avenue Christian Church in DeLand and the DeLand Garden Club. Virginia worked for Western Union Press Coverage of Cape Canaveral and had a Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in DeLand. She loved tennis, golf and traveling. She also enjoyed being with her family, reading and watching black and white movies.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Staff Sergeant Cecil L. Barnes, who was killed in action during World War II, and Hubert H. Jacobs (married 34 years) and children, David Jacobs, Betsy Jacobs Hunt, Joy Jacobs Lipscomb and Marilyn Jane Jacobs.

Survivors include son, Robert Gamber Jacobs of DeLand, FL; daughter, Linda Jacobs Harrison (Gerald) of DeLand, FL; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

There will be a Gathering of Friends on Thursday, June 2nd from 10-11am at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand, with a funeral service following at 11am. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand.
