Ida Dell Cozine Herbert was the daughter of John Allison and Eliza Ann Smith Cozine. She was born on December 5, 1884 at Kiowa, Kansas. In 1888, she moved with her parents and 3 sisters to a farm near Brayton, IA. Her sisters were Mabel (married Clinton Stemm), Gertrude (married Charles Taylor) and Goldie (married Charles Wylie). Another sister Blanch Edith Cozine was born 7 Dec 1880 and died 24 Feb 1881 (2 1/2 months). They came from Kansas in a covered wagon, bringing with them horses and cattle. After several years, the family moved to Cameron Township where Ida's brother Verne was born. Then Ida's parents bought 120 acres 2 miles west and 1/4 mile south of Ross, Iowa, in Leroy Township.

She married Ralph Lynch Herbert on March 28, 1906 at the Cozine home, north of Audubon, Iowa. They made their home for many years on the farm just east of the Audubon Airport and south of Audubon.

Ida and Ralph were the parents of three children, Russell Cozine Herbert, Helen Marie Herbert Hansen, and Jean Herbert who died in infancy. Ida died on August 26, 1950 in Audubon, IA.

Ida sewed beautiful quilts by hand and was a very precise seamstress. She did other types on handwork with precision also. She raised her children to use their talents and skills to help others, to laugh and enjoy life, and to share their blessings with others.
