George 'Tex' 'Pop' Barker, 87, of Bloomington, CA died May 25, 1999 of respiratory arrest at St. Bernardino Medical Center in San Bernardino, Calif.
Barker, was born April 24, 1912 in Terre Haute, Ind. He was the son of Charles and Anna Barker. He came from a family of ten children, he is the last survivor. He was first married to Jody Scheerer and then to Marion Hutchinson, they both preceded him in death. He lived in Bloomington, Calif. for 30 years.
He was a truck driver/cement layer for Transit Redi mix Co. for 30 years. He received numerous safety awards and was also a union steward. He was involved in horseshoe tournaments across the US winning many trophies. He was on a bowling team for many years. He was in a poker playing club, he fished, played pool and was involved with little league with his son Jon. In his earlier adult life he rode and showed horses. He was a member of the Josephine Knopp Senior Center and the Bloomington Little League.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He never met a stranger, everyone was his friend as soon as he said 'Howdy'.
Survivors include three sons; Jon Warner of San Bernardino, CA. and Bill and Bob both of Arizona; two daughters, Betty Pfannenstiel and Skeeter, both of Bloomington; and 20 grandchildren.
Service will be at 3p.m. at Rose Hills Mortuary, Whittier, CA. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
