She departed this life June 6, 2004 in Mt. Vernon at the age of 105. A resident of Mt. Vernon for over 30 years, she was born July 9, 1898 in Lake City, SC, the eldest of eight children of Viola and Sam Cooper. She was the devoted wife of Kince C. Davis and mother of six children: Ossie Davis Essie D. Morgan, Kenneth, William and James Davis, and stepdaughter Lelar Simmons. She was also "Mama" to her daughters-in-law Ruby Davis, Delores Foster, Ocia and LaVerne Davis, and her son-in-law William Morgan, Sr. She was "Gram" to her 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and "Mother Davis" to friends and neighbors she called her "Adopted Children." Laura Davis was a giving, caring and loving person. She belonged to White Rock Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, was a member of the NAACP, the Cooley Place Block Association, and the Women's Auxiliary of Macedonia Baptist Church, Valdosta, GA. Visiting Wednesday 6-9 PM Macedonia Baptist Church, 141 S. 9th Ave., Mt. Vernon. Funeral Service Thursday 10 AM at the church. Interment Valdosta, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you hand deliver flowers to the mother of your choice, spend time talking with her, tell her you love her and give her lots of hugs and kisses.
