SALEM - Graveside Service at Willamette National Cemetery at 12pm on Sept 28 followed by Celebration of Life at 3pm Howell Edwards Doerksen Funeral Home.

------------------
Inez was born at home in Hubbard, Oregon the daughter of Gordon and May Belle Grimm. She was descended from covered wagon pioneers that came from back east to settle in the Willamette Valley and she remained there for her entire life. Inez attended grade school in Aloha and went on to graduate from Beaverton High School and has maintained friendships with classmates that still gather together to this day.

Soon after high school, Inez married a local boy from the Bahnsen family in Hillsboro. Even though it was still the 50's, Inez was not a stay at home woman. She soon started her career in the business world with a job working in the Portland office of P.I.E. In 1957 she gave birth to a son, Dennis and started work at ESCO Corp. in northwest Portland. Inez was an unbelievably hard worker and eventually became an executive secretary working for several different vice-presidents over her many years spent with the company.

ESCO was at the time very much a family company and so it was to become for Inez. Shortly after she started work at ESCO she was divorced, but soon thereafter she was blessed to meet and fall in love with the one true love of her life, a handsome young engineer named Bill Halverson. They met while playing with the company's bowling team and Inez soon learned that Bill had been a big city boy growing up in northeast Portland, graduating from Benson High School and then Oregon State University where he had started for the Beavers in their famous 1942 Rose Bowl victory. Bill had two children of his own, daughter Cathie and son Brad. Together they bought a huge old rambling house with a large yard in Hillsboro and spent the best years of their lives fixing it up, gardening and inviting friends, relatives and business guests over to entertain and share it with them.

They both loved to travel and went on long trips together to visit daughter Cathie when she moved around the country from New York to Colorado to Idaho with her Air Force husband Dave. When son Brad became a standout football player for Hillsboro High School and went on to be a starter for the Oregon Ducks, they faithfully followed his team up and down the west coast and all the way to Hawaii to watch his games. Bill traveled all over the world in business and one of Inez's greatest joys was to be able to go with him on a special trip to Japan. They especially loved to spend time in San Francisco and Hawaii and made many special trips there.

Inez lost Bill far too soon in 1984 when he died suddenly, shortly after retiring from ESCO. Together they devoted nearly a hundred years of service to their ESCO family and made friendships there that will last forever. Inez continued to work at ESCO for several years after Bill's death. Inez would tell you that her years with Bill were the best of her life and that life was not the same without him, but she was a very tough lady. She became a breast cancer survivor and lived to retire and resettle in Salem where she devoted herself to her family and her beloved dogs. She was a tireless gardener, an avid reader and loved to create needle-point gifts for her grandkids while at home. Inez never lost her constant urge to roam and see new things, traveling to Nevada, California, Alaska, Virginia, Florida, Louisiana, and Hawaii with daughter Cathie and son Dennis. One of her favorite things was to simply load up her dog(s) and go for a drive in the country along the backroads outside of Salem.

"Grandma Halverson" never remarried and remained faithful to and in love with her Bill right up until the day she died. She is survived by daughter, Cathie (Wayne) Haas and her two sons, Scott and Brett Gundle; son, Brad (Jan) Halverson and his children Jamie and Brian; son, Dennis (Cathy) Halverson and his daughters Jennifer, Crystal and Kindra; great grandchildren, Alexis, Lyric, Annabelle, Ethan, Savannah, John Wayne, Troy, Abby, Aiden, Teagan and Sydney; and all of the surviving members of the Aloha, Beaverton and ESCO families that she so dearly loved.

A graveside service will be conducted at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon at 12:00 pm on Friday September 28, 2012 followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm at Howell Edwards Doerksen Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, contributions to two of Inez's favorite charities - the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the Salem Union Gospel Mission are suggested. Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors. To leave audio or online condolences please visit www.HED-FH.com.
