Funeral services for Julian Witherington, 83, of Dublin, Rt. 2, and one of Laurens County's best know citizens will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock ath Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Graham Bowen and the Rev. C. E. Vines officiating. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery and Adams Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Witherington will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Active pallbearers will be Hall Outler, Eddie Beacham, Owen Sheppard, Drexel Canady, Tollie Smith and Chares Fountain. An honorary escort will include F.A. Josey, Frank Pryor, Ed Roche, C.U. Smith, J.Q. Graham, Joe Sumlin, Paul Sconyers and Dr. Robert T. Anderson.

Native of Laurens County Mr. Witherington was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and Deacon and former teacher and superintendent of the Sunday School.

He was the son of the late W.A. Witherington and Tinie Haseltine Witherington. Mr. Witherington was a retired farmer and was active in community affairs during his active life. He died Wednesday in a local hospital after three weeks's illness and he was in declining health for several years.

Mr. Witherington is survived by his wife, the former Corrie Clyde Malone; three daughters, Mrs. Oscar Coleman, of Atlanta, Mrs. W.S. McLin, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mrs. William F. Murphy, of Macon; seven sons, Joe A. Witherington and J. Stanley Witherington, of Macon, William A. Witherington , Forest Park, E. Calhoun Witherington, Forest Park, Wilbur M. Witherington, Miami, Fla., Julian R. Witherington, Miami, Charles B. Witherington, Dublin; one sister, Mrs. Marlin Cardell of Charleston, S.C., two brothers, Milton E. Witherington of Dublin, and Albert Witherington of Chester; 19 grandchildren, two great-grand-children and a number of nieces and nephews.
