Son of Henry and Lucretia (Pope) Brown. In his earlier years Oliver was a shoemaker. With his first wife, Augusta, he had a daughter Annie (b. 1847) and a son Charles E. (b. 1849). They were both born in South Reading, Massachusetts which later became Wakefield. Annie most likely died in childhood. Charles grew to adulthood and married Katie Cushing in 1873.
The Browns, consisting of Oliver, his 2nd wife Mary, Charles, Frank and little Mary, could be found in Peterborough, N.H. according to the 1860 census.
By 1870 the family had moved to Jaffrey, N.H. Oliver was a farmer. Mary had given birth to two more children: Lena, born about 1862 in N.H. and Annie who had been born at Winchendon, Mass. in 1869.
Oliver finally arrived in Gardner before the 1880 census. He was employed at a chair factory. The two youngest children were still at home at the time.
In 1900 just Oliver and Mary were renting a place at 45 Green Street, Gardner. He was a pressman. His death certificate in 1910 listed his occupation as a printer. Mr. Brown passed away at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea.
