SIOUX CITY -- Chris Harrington, 81, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness. Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Neil Peck officiating. Private graveside services will be Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Chris was born June 28, 1927, to Juanita and Burdette Booz of Quincy, Ill. She was raised in the Chicago area. She graduated from Austin High School in Chicago, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the college club. During her school career, she did commercial and fashion modeling. She attended the University of Illinois and Elmhurst College before transferring to Morningside College.

Shirley (her legal name) was known as Chris, came to Sioux City to attend Morningside College, where she met her husband, Dean Harrington. She married Dean Harrington on July 8, 1950, in Chicago. She and her husband of 56 years resided in Sioux City. While at Morningside College, she was vice president of her class, a member of the Morningside Players, a cheerleader and a member of the student council. She was a model and Chicago Civic Opera ballet dancer. She taught dancing in the Physical Education Department at Morningside College. She opened her own studio in the early 1950s, Chris Harrington Dance Studio, where she taught tap and ballet for more than 20 years.

In her later years, she enjoyed playing bridge, following her grandkids' activities with an added interest in her granddaughters' dance lessons and competitions, reading and watching a good movie.

Survivors include three daughters, Holly and her son, Robby, Sally O'Hern and her children, Callie Jo and Kane and Kelly Nelson and her husband, Jeff and two daughters, Jade and Kasey; a brother, Jerry Booz of Schaumberg, Ill. and his four children, Cory, Bonnie, Danny and Jamie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burdette and Juanita "Jo" Booz; her husband, Dean Harrington; her sister-in-law, June Booz; and her son-in-law, Scott O'Hern.

Honorary pallbearers will be Callie Jo and Kane O'Hern, Robby Harrington, Jade and Kasey Nelson.
