DYER BROOK - Ryan Paul Bates, 36, died Sept. 24, 2012 as a result of a car accident. He was born September 2, 1976 in Houlton, the son of Carroll H. Bates Sr. and Susan (Coolong) York. Ryan grew up in Haynesville and Mt. Chase, where he had plenty of opportunities to hunt, fish, and enjoy the great outdoors. He graduated from Katahdin High School in 1995. Following graduation, he entered the work force and became a skilled carpenter. Ryan's greatest accomplishment in life was being the proud father of his two sons, Bryce Hadley and Hayson James. Ryan was a great dad. Besides his two sons, Ryan is survived by his loving parents, Susan York of Island Falls and Carroll and Mary Bates of Mt. Chase; his brother, Carroll Bates Jr., and his wife Nicole; his niece and nephew, Ora Kinsley and Carroll III of Glenburn; aunts and uncles, Glenda and Raymond Sommers, Marie and Tom Chase all of Patten, Kemp and Debbie Coolong of Mt. Chase, Dan and Nancy Coolong of Greenville, R.I. and many cousins.
