John went into the Navy as a Lt. Commander in World War II. He had his masters at that time. He was involved in bombing submarine off the California coast. They used blimps to drop the bombs. The people were not told this was happening. Later he was send to be Port Director in New Orleans. The Germans were sinking the tankers (Liberty Ships) faster then they could send them out at first. They had a minimal crew on them. Sometimes they did not get out of the Gulf.
After the war he went back to the schools. He was a principal for 4 or 5 years at a grammar school.
