Merna born in Wewela, South Dakota and moved to Burwell, Neb in the 1930's with her family. After she graduated and continued more schooling, she taught school for two years in Burwell. Merna then attended beauty school in Grand Island, Neb. and received her license as a beautician and stylist and opened her own beauty salon in Burwell.
After Merna married Carroll, they spent their lives farming and raising cattle in the Burwell, Cedar Rapids, Petersburg, and Akron. When they retired in 1984 - 1988, they spent time between Albion and Green Valley, Arizona.
Merna enjoyed many church functions, ladies clubs, loved playing card games with the neighbors, and cooking.
