Sister Aquilina (Margaret Mary) Acker was born on 4th May, 1895, in Ashton, Wisconsin. She was the first of ten children -- five boys and five girls born to Francis Xavier (1864-1957) and Mary Endres (1869-1962)Acker. She attended the public school up to sixth grade, when the sisters arrived. She went to the seventh grade in the parochial school, but back in the public school for grade eight which was lacking in the sister school. She entered the convent in 1913.
Her first mission was Wellston, Ohio. Sister taught in Kellnersville, Algoma, Reedsville, Clintonville, Kiel, Mackville (18 years),Oneida (St. Joseph), Menominee (St. Ann and St. John), Petoskey,Escanaba, Manistique, Cleveland and Appleton (St. Pius). Most of her teaching was in Grades 5-8. Sister received her education at Holy Family College, Michigan State Normal College in Ypsilanti, Columbia College in Dubuque, Creighton University in Omaha, and St. Norbert College in DePere.
Sister Aquilina translated many German letters and articles for the community and the archives. She had a way of getting those German idioms brought out in English.
In a Christmas message in 1982, she wrote "Let us pray for each other. God love and bless you." Sister Aquilina.

Sister Aquilina Acker, 87, a member of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Monday evening, May 2, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Rev. Gerald Walker, OFM, Cap. will officiate and burial will be in the convent cemetery.
Sister Aquilina was born Margaret Mary Acker, May 4, 1894, at Ashton, Wis., daughter of the late Frank and Mary Endres Acker. She entered the Order of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in 1913 and professed her vows in 1917. She received a Michigan State life teaching certificate in 1925, a State teaching certificate in 1946, and a bachelors degree in History, Philosophy and Education from St. Norbert College. She taught schools at Kellnersville, Algoma, Reedsville, Clintonville, Kiel, Mackville, Oneida, Green Bay, Cleveland and Appleton, Wis., and Menominee, Petoskey, Escanaba and Manistique, Mich., retiring in 1975.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, two sisters, Rose Uselman of Madison and Amelia Acker of Middleton, Wis., and a brother, Anton Acker of Middleton.
Friends may call at the convent 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
