CHILHOWIE, Va - James W. Owens, age 90, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at his home.
He was a 50-plus year employee of Bonham Brothers Orchard and was an avid gardener.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by a son, Roger Owens, two infant grandsons, one granddaughter, Robin Ratliff, and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Perkins Henderson Owens; two daughters, Nancy Clear and husband Bill of Chilhowie and Jewell Cardwell and husband Don of Saltville; son, Mike Henderson and wife Alma of Chilhowie; daughter-in-law, Shirley Owens of Chilhowie; two brothers, Howard Owens of Chilhowie and Buddy Owens of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Katherine Owens of Chilhowie; grandchildren, Stephen and Rosa Clear, Will and Kimberly Clear, Leigh Ellen Widener, Sarah and Howard Thomas, David Cardwell and Mark Cardwell; "best buddy", Rebecca Henderson; great-grandchildren, Zared and Mitchell, Mattie and Abram, Garrett and Mary-Hannah, Levi and Lindsey, Layken, Hannah and Zackery; grandson-in-law, John Ratliff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 5, 2008, at Mount Rose Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will gather at the home of Nancy and Bill Clear, 212 Sanders Ave., Chilhowie.
